Nokia Launches Android Phones

So the wait is finally over, Nokia phone running on open-source Android project version 4.1.2Nokia Logo are officially launched. All the rumors that have been surfacing for years have seen light of the day at last.

As per Nokia, major aaps will be available at launch for X family of devices including facebook, LINE Free Voice and Messages, LINE Camera, LINE Bubble, Picsart, Plants vs. Zombies 2, Real Football 2014, Skype, Spotify, Swiftkey, Twitter, Viber, Vine and WeChat, among others. Moreover, Nokia is also providing BBM for these devices in addition to Windows phones.

It is quite surprising that the company announced three phones since all the leaks indicated a single, mid range model.

Nokia Android Launch

The OS, as expected comes with a Windows like interface with pre-loaded services like Skype, Outlook, facebook etc. Google has been deliberately sidelined. Users will however be able to install any Android apk on the phone not just games and apps but also launchers.

Nokia’s Fastlane (track of everything going on in the background and your history) is also built-in into the phone’s interface.

Based on reviews, user interface doesn’t look so smooth, fact being, the phone runs on Android Jelly Bean, rather than the newer, more customized version.

Nokia X  and X+

Both the phones are virtually the same except the fact that X+ is having more internal and expandable storage. Design is Asha inspired. Those vivid colours and replaceable backs clearly indicate the price-point and the target audience. Dual-sim connectivity further clarifies that.

The price of the Nokia X and X+ are 89 Euros (12,800 PKR) and 99 Euros (14,200 PKR) respectively.

As expected, the phones will be released only in developing markets such as Asia including Pakistan, Nokia has told, in Q2.

Nokia XL

This is certainly the product no one expected. It is the top-end smartphone which also runs on forked Android 4.1.2 but sits one slot above the Nokia X+, in the territory of the Lumia 520.

The phone will hit emerging markets in Q2 of this year for 109 Euros or about 15,700 PKR.

With X series, Nokia has given its fans another reason to join the family. Only time will tell the fate of Nokia’s latest endeavor in Android Arena. Whether it will be successful remains a matter of debate and we can’t say anything for sure until we’ve tried it out for ourselves.
